FROM SCRATCHWOOD TO WYCHWOOD

All puffed out

was the site of another exit to oblivion.

At 5.40 p.m. on October the 24th, 1968, British Railways' very last steam engine, a Pacific Express locomotive, left Paddington Station in London.

A couple of hours later it puffed into Banbury and into history.

All over England, schoolboys of all ages go misty-eyed.
